De voorbije jaren riep de bezetting van Wolfmother menigmaal associaties op met een draaideur want bandleider Andrew Stockdale wisselde vaker van muzikanten dan van overhemd. Het mag dan ook geen verrassing heten dat Stockdale ervoor heeft gekozen om de naam Wolfmother (voorlopig) los te laten en als soloartiest verder te gaan. Het derde Wolfmother album dat als werktitel Gatherings had komt om die reden niet op de markt. De verzameling opnamen die Stockdale de voorbije jaren voor Gatherings had gemaakt, zal nu worden uitgebracht als zijn solodebuut: Keep Moving.

Aanvankelijk zou Keep Moving alleen als digitale release verschijnen, maar dat onzalige idee heeft hij (of de platenmaatschappij) gelukkig losgelaten. Stockdale’s debuut verschijnt op 31 mei in Australië en 3 dagen later in Europa. Muzikaal ligt het debuut van Stockdale in hetzelfde straatje als Wolfmother getuige de sterke single Long Way To Go. De invloeden van bands als Cream en Led Zeppelin zijn nog steeds alomtegenwoordig.

Ian Peres, Will Rockwell-Scott, Vin Steele, Elliott Hammond, Hamish Rosser en Dave Atkins werkten mee aan de opnamen. Daarnaast waren er bijdragen van The Delta Riggs lid Alex “Rudy” Markwell en trompettist Joe Howman.

Stockdale over de keuze om het album niet als Wolfmother uit te brengen: “Well, it’s like this… in all honesty, since the second incarnation, it’s [been] a solo project with me calling it Wolfmother. All the players involved have been fantastic. Though for me now I want the freedom to change members for whatever tour or whatever recording without having to use people or not use people to make it look like a band. I don’t want the publicity statement to guide the creative outcome; I don’t think it works. Music is like some kind of truth serum. You can hear what’s going on in people’s souls; the listener listens for emotion, not a brand name, so you may as well call it what it is and be true to the music.”

Stockdale over de muziek op het album: “It’s like old-school, new-school, uptempo boogie rock. It’s uplifting and to the point. The tones are all there — vintage drum tones, vintage guitar, vintage lossness. It’s like hearing an old piece of crap rock band squashed and blasted through some high-fi tape. The key to this whole record is to make it hold up to modern recording standards while still with the heart and soul of old rock records.”
