Beck’s Song Reader toch uit op album
In 2012 bracht Beck Song Reader uit: 20 eigen composities, enkel uitgebracht als bladmuziek. Het rijkelijk geïllustreerde boek had als opzet dat fans en artiesten hun persoonlijke interpretatie konden geven aan de nummers, om ze vervolgens te delen op Beck’s website.
Beck werd overweldigd door de talrijke interpretaties, met als gevolg de beslissing om de bladmuziek tot leven te wekken met een studio-album. 20 nummers en dus 20 artiesten (waaronder Jeff Tweedy, Jack White en Beck zelf) werkten mee aan Beck Song Reader, een album dat op 25 juli in de winkel ligt.
Beck zelf over het album: “Like a kid getting a special package in the mail and opening it up with anticipation, these interpretations of songs from the Song Reader book have surpassed what I could have imagined when putting the book together. The book addressed the idea of a song in its most elemental form, letting others give it a voice. It amazes me to hear how these musicians have made the songs their own and in the process revealed that the interpretation is the living breathing soul of the piece. These interpretations have made the book something new— something better.”
